Somatic Therapy

Mind and Body

Our thought, emotions, and sensations are interconnected and influence one another.

Our bodies are a great resource in understanding our mind, thoughts and emotions.

Working somatically means bringing attention to what we carry in the body; our symptoms can hold unconscious memories of experiences that have been painful.

Consciously connecting body and mind, can help us restore energy to live more fully (instead of always feeling that we are in survival mode) We can then come back into the present with access to all the energy previously bound up in immobility.

Somatic therapy involves learning tools and skills to discharge stuckness and emotional tension that can remain in the body from past negative experiences. We can support our body’s innate ability to restore balance, enabling us to feel calmer and to better regulate our nervous system. Our sensing of tensions and memories held in the body and releasing them can help resolve overwhelm and anxiety.

This can enable the feeling of increased self-awareness, understanding of our problems and enable increased clarity and an overall feeling of well-being.
